Phys Development Laboratory Ltd. was found in 2007 as a family-owned SME. Over nearly two decades of activity in the solar and semiconductor industries, Phys has become a trusted metrology partner to leading companies across Asia. Building on this experience and strong R&D background, the company has recently expanded into the space sector, bringing its expertise in advanced measurement technologies and industrial development to the rapidly growing space industry.
2007 – Foundation & First Metrology System
Development of our first in-house metrology product, the NIR-01 silicon brick tester, deployed in a solar cell manufacturing environment. Establishment of Phys as a solar industry instrumentation company.
2008 – Industrial Solar Manufacturing Partnerships
Cooperation with LDK Solar (China), one of the world’s largest solar manufacturers at the time.
2013 – Advanced Photoluminescence Technology
Development of our first photoluminescence inspection system with in-house designed laser source. Prototype presented at SNEC Expo Shanghai, marking entry into advanced semiconductor and solar cell metrology.
2015 – Inline Industrial Systems & Predictive Analytics
Cooperation with Delta Electronics, delivering a 3600WPH inline photoluminescence inspection system. Introduction of predictive mathematical algorithms, validated in high-volume production environments.
2019 – Semiconductor-Grade Metrology Platform
Development of the Phys SimPLe photoluminescence mapping platform for semiconductor industry applications. The project resulted in several innovations in industrial machine design, including remotely serviceable laser subsystems and integrated crash protection features that significantly reduced the risk of damage to high-value optical components during operation.
2021 – Integration into Leading Semiconductor Manufacturing
The Phys SimPLe platform becomes part of the TSMC value chain. A support wafer outgoing inspection lab is fully equipped with Phys machines. Systems operate in continuous high-volume production with proven long-term stability.

Phys Development Laboratory Ltd. combines nearly two decades of semiconductor and photovoltaic metrology experience with space-qualified Electrical Power System (EPS) component supply.
Alongside supplying space solar cells, strings and related EPS components, we focus on characterization, quality assurance and engineering support for satellite power systems. Our metrology heritage enables us to contribute not only as a component supplier, but also as a technical partner in product evaluation, customization and performance analysis.
Through close cooperation with international partners and access to decades of space industry expertise, we are committed to bringing advanced methodologies and reliable space power solutions to the growing European space ecosystem.
