Phys Development Laboratory Ltd. was founded in 2007 as a small, family-owned SME. Over nearly two decades of activity in the solar and semiconductor industries, Phys has become a trusted metrology partner to leading companies across Asia. Building on this experience and strong R&D background, the company has recently expanded into the space sector, bringing its expertise in advanced measurement technologies and industrial development to the rapidly growing space industry.
2007 – Foundation & First Metrology System
Development of our first in-house metrology product, the NIR-01 silicon brick tester, deployed in a solar cell manufacturing environment. Establishment of Phys as a solar industry instrumentation company.
2008 – Industrial Solar Manufacturing Partnerships
Cooperation with LDK Solar (China), one of the world’s largest solar manufacturers at the time.
2013 – Advanced Photoluminescence Technology
Development of our first photoluminescence inspection system with in-house designed laser source. Prototype presented at SNEC Expo Shanghai, marking entry into advanced semiconductor and solar cell metrology.
2015 – Inline Industrial Systems & Predictive Analytics
Cooperation with Delta Electronics, delivering a 3600WPH inline photoluminescence inspection system. Introduction of predictive mathematical algorithms, validated in high-volume production environments.
2019 – Semiconductor-Grade Metrology Platform
Development of the Phys SimPLe photoluminescence mapper platform for semiconductor industry applications, introducing:
integrated 3D-printed optical and mechanical components
remote laser tuning for online serviceability
crash-protected system design for industrial robustness
2021 – Integration into Leading Semiconductor Manufacturing
The Phys SimPLe platform becomes part of the TSMC value chain. A support wafer outgoing inspection lab is fully equipped with Phys machines. Systems operate in continuous high-volume production with proven long-term stability.

Phys Ltd. as cooperative partner of China’s most important space company opened its portfolio with space quialified solar cells and strings. We continuously develop our products range in the field of satellite EPS components. Our definite role and aim is to match component quality to the European standards and requirements and build up trust towards Chinese origin components. Our R&D background is the driving power so we can directly cooperate in product customization and technical discussions with customers.. We have access to 50 years of space industry experience, and we are committed to transferring this knowledge to strengthen the local space ecosystem.
