The ORION Space Generation Foundation is a pioneering organization dedicated to promoting space exploration and fostering knowledge dissemination, particularly among the younger generations. Aligned with the European Union’s objectives, our mission extends to advancing STEAM subjects globally.
Through innovative projects and partnerships, it emphasizes the transformative power of space exploration, aiming to make it understandable for all age groups. Our focus encompasses education, public awareness, research support, and active involvement in solving societal problems.
We pride ourselves on environmental awareness, sustainability efforts, and our visionary approach to vertical farming in collaboration with Csillagvaros Kft. – Grow Stars Institute. Located in Budapest, our state-of-the-art vertical farm showcases our commitment to technological innovation, contributing to space missions’ food diversity and Earth’s sustainable farming challenges.
The partnership with Budapest Makery exemplifies a commitment to creative collaboration.
The ORION Space Generation Foundation continuously expands its child programs, introducing innovative solutions. Excitingly, we’re launching large-scale competitions tailored for children – an initiative to ignite their imagination in the vast realm of space exploration.
Our special, unique STEAM educational material will make its debut in Hungary in the year 2024.
Supporting young talents and sponsoring research rockets, such as the BME Suborbitals competition team, reflects their dedication to shaping the future of space exploration.
The Csillagváros Ltd.’s professional R&D vertical farm conducts experiments on colonizing plants, serving not only to diversify food sources but also to provide astronauts with healthy and nutritious food during long space journeys. Despite growing in terrestrial conditions, our colonization plants share similar cultivation technology to the Veggie system used on the International Space Station (ISS). Our research includes cultivating space vegetables, grains, and serving as the foundation for deep-space expeditions. Collaborative research with HYD Cancer Research and Drug Development Ltd., led by Dr. Gábor Somlyai, focuses on producing deuterium-depleted food for planned deep-space expeditions, considering its potential anticancer effects. Research also explores the application of artificial intelligence in vertical farming and controlled environment plant cultivation.
Collaboration with Budapest Makery introduces space-themed dinners, aiming to familiarize people with space exploration through everyday habits. We make colonization plants tangible and showcase the R&D behind vertical farming through the preparation and consumption of a delightful dinner in the first DIY restaurant of the world.
Our foundation’s talent development program nurtures the next generation of space researchers. Supported initiatives, like the BME Suborbitals competition team developing research rockets, contribute to shaping the future of space exploration.
In addition to ongoing children’s competitions related to the Orion spacecraft and ARTEMIS program, the ORION Space Generation Foundation’s ownership of Buzz Aldrin’s Gian Moon and Mars Maps is set to begin their educational mission among Hungarian children in the second half of 2024. The Hungarian debut of the maps, envisioned by NASA’s former Director of Education Jim Christensen and Mark Wagner, the Aldrin Family Foundation’s Director of International Relations, will take place on April 26, 2024, during the I. Füredi Space Day.
