HUN-REN Institute for Nuclear Research (ATOMKI)

Core activity of ATOMKI is conducting basic and applied research in nuclear physics, atomic physics and particle physics; application of knowledge and methods from the field of physics in other disciplines (material science and material research, earth sciences and environmental research, heritage science and space research) and in practice; developing methods and tools for basic and applied research. Disseminating scientific knowledge in the context of its core research activity, publishing scientific, technical and educational materials.

Relevance to the space industry

Presence of radiation, cryo- and vacuum technology laboratories at the same place gives opportunity for a wide range of radiation hardness investigations. Low energy proton, neutron, gamma, heavy ion irradiation can be provided both in vacuum and in the air. Experience in electronics and detector development, as well as in material science may help users to perform radiation hardness test and to understand and interpretate their results. ATOMKI is a partner also in development of new materials for space applications and in investigation of chemical processes in space environment.
